Ranjeni in bolni

Ranjeni in bolni partizani so bili med NOB deležni velike pozornosti. Skrb zanje se je v Sloveniji začela že takoj po oboroženi vstaji. Začetki partizanske sanitete segajo v avgust 1941, ko je bil na pobudo glavnega poveljstva slovenskih partizanskih čet v Ljubljani ustanovljen zdravniški matični odbor Osvobodilne fronte. Organiziral je zbiranje sanitetnega materiala in zdravil, prirejal skrivne strokovne tečaje za medicince in bolničarke, občasno pa je pošiljal zdravnike na teren, kjer so zdravili ranjene in bolne partizane ter aktiviste Osvobodilne fronte. V prvih partizanskih četah in bataljonih do spomladi 1942 ni bilo organizirane partizanske sanitete. Za ranjene partizane so skrbeli bolničarji ali študentje medicine, občasno tudi zdravniki, zdravili pa so se v manjših bolniških skrivališčih oziroma sanitetnih postajah. Organizirano saniteto v partizanskih enotah je omogočil šele prihod skupine dvajsetih zdravnikov na osvobojeno ozemlje spomladi 1942.


Razvoj partizanskega zdravstva na območju 4. operativne cone je bil tesno povezan z razvojem osvobodilnega boja in z vojaško-političnimi razmerami v posameznih pokrajinah. Zaradi drugačnega in precej tršega nemškega okupacijskega sistema na slovenskem Štajerskem in Koroškem, na tem območju do leta 1944 ni bilo partizanskih bolnišnic in organiziranega partizanskega zdravstva, kakršno je bilo v Ljubljanski pokrajini. Kljub temu pa se je skrb za ranjene in bolne partizane začela že takoj po oboroženi vstaji.
