What did we want from Shakespeare?

Gašper Troha: What did we want from Shakespeare?
William Shakespeare: As You Like It or Twelfth Night on the Slovenian Stages

v Drama Kavarni, SNG Drama Ljubljana (Erjavčeva 1, Ljubljana).

Shakespeare's arguably best comedy is called As You like It. It was written at the height of his career, in 1600, at the same time as Hamlet and just before his most famous plays, including Othello, King Lear and Macbeth. It was first staged here in 1923 (National Theatre in Ljubljana, directed by Osip Šest) and has been performed 15 times to date.

The lecture by Gašper Troha, Director of the Slovenian Theatre Institute, will walk through the Slovenian productions and try to show what the Slovenian public wanted from Shakespeare. When were the productions successful and why? So, does Shakespeare's text adapt to new productions and social contexts? Is it a kind of chameleon of likeability that does not forget to wake up its own audience?

Free tickets are available at the Drama Box Office (weekdays from 14:00 to 20:00, Saturdays from 18:00 to 20:00, one hour before the performance or other event).

You are cordially invited!
