Graffiti is a specific form of street art and an important part of the subculture of larger towns and cities. In Maribor several graffiti masterpieces were created by the local artist Teo Ivančič aka Teoson. With his distinctive style and copious compositions, Teoson, a tattoo artist and an athlete at heart, made a lasting imprint on several areas of Maribor. In 2013, when Maribor was awarded the title of European Youth Capital, Teoson and ten young graffiti artists were commissioned by the Municipality of Maribor to spray paint the underpass under Titova Street in central Maribor. The idea for the new imagery was based on an older graffiti in the underpass that read: “Green, how I want you green”. Teoson painted the eastern part of the underpass around the stairs ascending to Ulica Talcev Street. Its content was designed as follows: the bottom of the underpass is the underground with Maribor’s coat of arms, the walls of the staircase are enveloped with roots and an inscription “We are Maribor”: the top of the underpass or the green fence represents a meadow.
