The Slovenian Theatre Institute and SNT Drama Ljubljana continue their collaboration within the SLOGI and Drama programme, which contextualises theatrical productions prior to their opening nights from the perspective of theatre history and situates them within a broader artistic and socio-cultural framework.
In February, An Enemy of the People will be presented on the Main Stage of SNT Drama Ljubljana. Ibsen’s drama explores the conflict between an idealistic individual, committed to the pursuit of truth and justice, and the mechanisms of a rigid social system that resolutely resists change and the acknowledgement of its own shortcomings. Up to now, the play has been staged four times on Slovenian professional theatre stages. With nearly seventy productions, Ibsen ranks among the most frequently performed playwrights in the history of Slovenian theatre.
Prior to the premiere of An Enemy of the People, audiences are invited to attend a historical survey of theatrical engagements with Ibsen’s dramatic works on Slovenian stages. The presentation will be delivered by Dr Matic Kocijančič, Curator and Head of the Archive Collection at the Slovenian Theatre Institute.
