The project Dialogues in Speech Bubbles, realised in 2025 by the Slovenian Theatre Institute in cooperation with the Centre for Communication, Hearing and Speech Portorož, the Centre for Hearing and Speech Maribor and the Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Ljubljana, was designed to promote reading literacy and strengthen language skills in Slovenian language. The project was co-financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.
As part of the project, pupils and secondary school students explored dramatic and other literary texts in a creative manner, using theatre pedagogy approaches and visual museum materials from our collections. The workshops also included adaptations of dramatic texts in graphic novels, which introduced pupils and students to the expressive possibilities of the comics medium and encouraged them to create their own comics scenes based on literary works.
One of the outcomes of the project is the touring exhibition Dialogues in Speech Bubbles, which presents a selection of comics interpretations of excerpts from literary texts. The exhibition will be on display from 13th to 27th February 2026 at the Event Hall of the Slovenian Theatre Institute.
